TOOTH DECAY (CAVITIES) RESTORATION

WHAT CAUSES CAVITIES?

Caries, commonly known and called Cavities are caused by bacteria in the mouth that thrives on the plaque and tartar that remain in your mouth over night.  These bacteria turns the sugar in the food and the drink into acid, which breaks down the enamel. Having sugary food and drink constantly will allow this process to continue relentlessly until the dentin layer breaks down and creates a hole or a cavity in the tooth.

TREATMENT OPTION FOR TOOTH DECAY

  •  If the decay is not severe, the tooth can be restored with a filling.

  • If the decay is in the nerve or pulp of the tooth, a root canal therapy will be necessary before restoring the tooth with a post and core and a crown.

  • If the decay has reached below the gum line, it can no longer be restored; the tooth will require an extraction.
