Gingival graft is a tissue transplant treatment which regrow gum tissue where the gum has been lost.
Traditionally, a piece of healthy gum is taken from a donor site and sewed over the area of receeded gum. Usually takes 6-8 weeks to confirm the result.
Typical situation that can benefit from gingival graft:
The gum on one of the front teeth had receeded and the root is exposed.
This can cause persistent sensitivity.
It can also cause further erosion of the root, which consists on dentin-a softer, yellower, and more porous structure than the part of the tooth that is covered by enamel.
In addition, if the area of the receed gums is visible when that person smiles, the recession add negative esthetic effect.
